Late April engagement sessions are truly something special, and Emma and Nick’s Cox Arboretum engagement session was an absolute dream. Spring was showing off in the best way — blooming trees, lush gardens, soft greenery, and the kind of light that makes everything feel fresh and romantic.
We kept this session simple with one outfit, and honestly? Sometimes that’s the best way to go. Emma and Nick’s neutral, light-toned outfits complemented the spring florals perfectly and allowed the focus to stay on their connection and the scenery around them. One outfit doesn’t mean less variety — Cox Arboretum offers so many backdrops that the gallery still feels full and dynamic.
We explored several areas throughout the arboretum, including the blooming trees, the pond, winding walking paths, and garden spaces that were bursting with color. Each area brought a slightly different feel while still keeping everything cohesive and timeless.
One of the most memorable parts of this session? Their pets came along! Emma and Nick brought both their dog and their cat — yes, their cat — to the session. They even had two friends tag along as pet wranglers, which made everything smooth and fun. Their cat traveled in the cutest backpack, and I loved incorporating such a meaningful (and unique!) part of their family into the session. The dog was just as adorable and clearly loved being part of the action.
Engagement sessions are about more than just pretty photos — they’re about telling your story. Including pets, keeping outfits comfortable, and choosing a meaningful location all help create images that truly feel like you.
Emma and Nick, I cannot wait to capture your wedding day at Rolling Meadows. If this session is any indication, it’s going to be beautiful.
