The Miller family holds a very special place in my heart. I’ve had the honor of capturing their family four different times, and their 2023 session marked the most recent chapter in their story. Watching families grow year after year is one of the most rewarding parts of being a family photographer, and this session was the perfect example of why I love what I do.

We met at Cox Arboretum MetroPark, one of my absolute favorite locations for family sessions in the Dayton area. If you’re dreaming of blooming florals, manicured gardens, and variety all in one place, Cox Arboretum truly delivers — and it looks beautiful nearly year-round.

Soft Pastels + Summer Florals

The Millers chose the prettiest pastel color palette for their session, with soft blues and blush tones that complemented the summer blooms perfectly. Their two little girls wore matching dresses, which added the sweetest touch of coordination without feeling overly styled. It was one of those outfit choices that photographs beautifully while still feeling natural and timeless.

Pastels are always a win for outdoor sessions, especially in a floral-rich environment like Cox Arboretum. They photograph softly, reflect light beautifully, and never overpower the scenery.

A Well-Rounded Family Gallery

One thing I’m very intentional about during family sessions is variety. For this family, we made sure to capture:

• Full family portraits
• Mom and Dad together
• Each child individually + together
• Each parent with each child
• Natural, candid moments in between

This approach ensures your final gallery tells a complete story — not just one posed moment, but the connection and personalities within your family. The girls were full of energy and smiles, and we let the session flow naturally while still gently guiding them into flattering light and locations.
